I am a Ph.D. candidate at Northern Illinois University, in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I am conducting a reintroduction effort of extirpated flatwoods amphibians (Ambystoma maculatum, Rana sylvatica, and Pseudacris crucifer) in Northern Illinois forested vernal pools. I am examining the response of pond-breeding amphibians to various habitat restoration efforts, dissolved oxygen requirements for Ambystoma hatching success, and restoration methods to improve vernal pool oxygen levels. I am also examining the ecological and developmental impacts of the invasion of European buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) on amphibians. My reintroduction work involves the use of in situ enclosures for headstarting Ambystoma, and collection of data on hatching and larval survival rates for population viability analyses. I am using Unified Life Models and RAMAS Metapop to create simulations of alternative reintroduction strategies and sensitivity analysis to evaluate impacts of reintroductions on source populations.
